( the way she speaks puts him on edge somehow, and the question she manages to ask even more so. the thought has been on the back of his mind for a while, plagued his thoughts, ruined his usual pattern of sneaking in a prank or two, or just irritating him senseless. yuu was nowhere in sight, and even lavi wasn't ridiculous enough to propose that yuu had been hiding some place. )
No, not today. ( not for a while, he seems to say. ) ... did'ya need him for something?
[she catches that implication, heart dropping a little in her chest]
I wanted to see if he was alright. But, [he's gone and there's no use in checking anymore. she swallows, and continues] he's good at taking care of himself, isn't he?
( he takes in the words quietly, nodding a little to his words even if she couldn't see. ) Yeah. ( he exhales deeply. ) He always has been. ( as long as lavi knew him. while it was a lonely sentiment in some ways, it was also marginally comforting to know how yuu normally was. grumpy, yeah, but capable. he's sure lenalee must have thought the same, too. all he could provide was confirmation, really. ) Though, he could have said something.
( then as if completing his own train of thought: ) —guess it wouldn't really be like him to be all considerate about this sort of thing. ( he smiles weakly at this own words, but even that felt pretty hollow. )

( there's something uplifting about hearing it worded that way. or maybe he just felt that way because it was lenalee saying it. regardless of whichever way it was meant to be, he nods along, even if she couldn't see it. ) Me too ( plus, what else was there to believe in. )
I don't think we're the types that can avoid fate so easily anyway. ( for better or for worse. )

He's always running off on his own. [...] But I'll believe in it. I'll believe that we'll see him again.
